General Timeline!
☆ 1972, Starlight is summoned as an Earth and Quintessence ghoul by Papa Emeritus I. Starlight appeared as a ≈25 year old, Primo was 42, not yet Papa but a cardinal. Starlight works as a personal assistant to Primo throughout their lives, later becoming romantically involved with him.
☆ Due to lack of proper ability to conduct safe summonings at the time, Starlights summoning caused a magic imbalance within her. She is unable to use her own magic, if so, then at the risk of dangerously low energy levels and extended recovery time. She relies on the energy auras off of other ghouls to stay functioning. She lost her memory of her previous life from The Pit (Hell). It's a common thing to happen to ghouls, however some are never capable of recalling their memories. Starlight is one of them who cannot.
☆ She is not a band ghoul. She tried it once for Primo in 2010 for his tour, but was unable to. Due to both anxiety and low energy levels.
☆ In 1977, Starlight met Copia, when he was 7 years old. She was tasked with babysitting for a while, as Sister was quite busy at the time. They developed a parent and child bond, primo as well would watch over copia with Starlight when he could. (Copia even, as a young kid, asked Starlight if she was his mother. She didn't know what that was and cried when primo explained it to her and that copia didn't know who his own mother was).
☆ Once Copia reached about the age of 18 though, he and Starlight never really saw each other again, as he was busy being taught abt the Clergy and all, working to be cardinal and later on becoming papa.
☆ They didn't see each other again until the beginning of the Prequelle era, when the previous papas were killed. Starlight had been expecting to be sent back to the pit, as the person who's contract she was bound to was no longer living, she was no longer bound to any contract and as such would normally be expected to be sent away.
☆ Copia however, as cardinal with a few of his own (new) ghouls (plus the 3 left from terzo) asked Starlight if she'd be willing to stay living on the Surface if the two of them made a contract. Starlight agreed, knowing copia was someone she could trust as she helped raise him. A special moment, like a re-bond for them. Contracts are like soul-ties, it brings individuals closer together. Copia sees Starlight similar to a mother, grateful for the few years in his childhood that they knew each other.
☆ Swiss killed the papas (hc). Swiss was introduced with the Prequelle era, 2018, when Copia became cardinal. Swiss is a multighoul, and the first of his kind to be summoned by the Clergy. It was unintentionally, they had been meaning for a ghoul of a different element but ended up with Swiss. However he was unique in his elements, and was allowed to stay under the conditions of Sister and Nihil. He was ordered to commit the act of killing Primo, Secondo, and Terzo in their silly little uno room and he did as told. 1.) Because he wanted to stay and 2.) He had no connections with any of the papas, and was easily capable of carrying out the task. His one job after that (besides regular work for a ghoul under Copia's reign) was to not tell anyone he was the one who did it.
☆ Sister originally was going to have the Killer Ghoul (swiss) be "disposable" as she didn't want any loose ends in regards to the Papas' killing to tell the truth of the situation. However, the ghoul she summoned, being Swiss, was a multighoul. Multighouls were rare to summon at the time (later on, the Clergy would learn how to purposefully be able to summon multighouls). She felt she couldn't let this one go, so after Swiss agreed to her terms to stay, Sister "gifted" him to Copia. She had decided to leave the selection of his set of ghouls up to Copia to choose, but gave Swiss to him "as a congratulations on the promotion." She had Copia believe that Swiss was under his contract and ruling, but Swiss was under her command the whole time, tasked with following Copia's orders. He was told to alert her of anything copia did that could possibly go against Sister's wishes, which is how Sister seems to know everything in regards to what happens on the insides of copia and his ghouls.
☆ Fast forward a bit, and Swiss and Starlight start becoming close little by little. One of the things that sticks out about Swiss to Star is how his scent is so familiar to her, she's gone years not knowing why. How it can bring a sense of comfort to her but sometimes she can't stand to be around him, something about him makes it painful for her sometimes and she's never known why.
☆ Swiss would come to find out that Starlight was Primo's ghoul for 46 years, and that they were extremely close. He finds out she had entered the room shortly after the papas died and caught an unfamiliar scent in the room. It was a ghoul, but not one she'd ever come into contact with. Swiss knew it was him, but he couldn't say anything. Leading to a few years of guilt that only became more unbearable to deal with, especially when as the years go on, starlight shows the others more and more of her memories she had shared with Primo via photographs. Paired with the visits to the basement Starlight has with him sometimes to see Primo in his glass coffin, it's a lot for Swiss to keep to himself.
☆ Copia is canonically NOT retiring but being promoted to Frater Emeritus after Sister has died at the LA show of 2023.
☆ Starlight was already going to be alive for the two LA shows. She actually agreed to attending that performance, as Copia was excited about the show and the special moments in his and the ghouls’ performing. Normally Starlight cannot attend tours as her energy levels cannot sustain her properly for a tour cycle. However, the ministry is canonially located in LA, so it was manageable for her, not having to travel very far from home for too long.
☆ Copia really wanted her there, as shes special to him in a non blood related familial sense. He even wanted her to try performing at least one night, something with vocals. Luckily, he already had the If You Have Ghosts segment of the show planned, and suggested Starlight be the ghoulette to harmonize throughout the song, as it wouldn't require her to move or actually speak. Starlight isn't the best singer, despite her litte hobby of vocalizing from time to time. Thankfully, Copia asked her of this in advance, giving her enough time to practice and hone her skills. The ghoulettes, specifically Aurora, helped her out.
☆ When Sister died, it was shown that all the ghouls surrounded her, concerned. While Sister never liked Starlight, and as such Starlight didn't like her either, Starlight was also concerned. However, instead of rushing to Sister, he went to Copia instead, seeing him on the floor still and watching his mother die. Starlight held him and shielded his eyes from the sight as if on instinct.
☆ Starlight would go on to help put together Sister's funeral service. Copia clings to Starlight a little more. While he learned the lesson Sister and Nihil gave him, to learn to live in the moment and not stress so much about what comes next, he's stll subconsciously desperate to hang onto what he can of his past. That being Starlight, the most motherly and parental figure he's had in his life. As well as now taking on the role as Frater Emertius, and now b3ing in charge of the entire clergy and what happens next, for the most part.
☆ Without the threat of death to him and any he tells, Swiss is now planning to tell Starlight the truth of what happened with the previous 3 Emeritus brothers. Sister, having pre-planned the outcome of her death, had Copia sign some form of “legal paper,” which was a cover up for what she realy made him sign. The new contract bounding him to Swiss, as Swiss had been under Sister's contract the whole time, while copia didn't know.
☆ Swiss however is unable to actually tell Starlight before he is sent back to The Pits.
☆ Love strawberries, they're pretty and cute. Wears strawberry and mushroom accessories + clothes
☆ No mouth, unable to speak verbally except for the words "uh-huh, oh, huh", general noises. Communicates through telepathy and hand gestures, makes squeak sounds when surprised and such. Body language is a huge thing for her.
☆ Unable to eat or drink, which is generally okay since ghouls don't require those to live. Ghouls mainly depend on energy, the more ghouls in a room, the better to keep them feeling in good shape. As such, starlight relies on the energy given off by her fellow ghouls, so she spends most of her time with at least one ghoul. While eating isn't mandatory, it certainly does help out a lot with providing energy. So naturally, Starlight doesn't have nearly as much energy as everyone else does. also why she's never been a band ghoul, paired with her fear of large crowds (and that she's rarely ever left the ministry, she did for primo's touring and that was it). She can play instruments, but too many factors that keep her from being as active as a job like that requires.
☆ She has magic, one would think she has twice as much as any ghoul, being a mix of two elements, but no. She can't use it, as it drains a fair amount of energy (for the average ghoul). But her being her, it leaves her incredibly drained. She can't use it unless she wants a day or two of immense exhaustion and recovery (the early days of summoning for the Clergy were, not as great as they are today).
☆ Reciprocates for the gifts given to her by the land, she's part earth, so she's quite in tune and respectful towards the earth. She always asks permission (in her own ways, not verbally ofc) before picking plants and such, and listens to the earth. She understands how the earth takes care of her and those she loves, and in turn, she takes care of the earth. Working in the gardens, taking care of the animals in the surrounding forests of the ministry, etc.
☆ Love rubix cubes. She fidgets with her hands a lot, so she always has one of those mini rubix cubes with her.
☆ Starlight can't read or write, not English at least. She was summoned just to serve and protect Primo, so reading wasn't exactly in the job description. She does understand English, though there's a fair amount of things she doesn't understand, specifically slang. Slang confuses her to no end, it's like a whole new language to her. English was hard enough for her to learn.
☆ Starlight has body dysmorphia. As a result, she avoids mirrors at all costs. She can't look at herself in a mirror without feeling like what she's looking at is "wrong", though she can't point out what it is. It stresses her out and generally upsets her, to varying levels depending on circumstance. This is the main reason she can't believe others when they say they like her physical appearance, because all she sees is something that isn't exactly her body. As a result, she generally goes about her days not knowing what she looks like, or how she's perceived to others. The only exception of these are photographs, only allowed to be taken by really close people (primo, fire) but even then, she rarely looks at the ones that involve her/she purposefully covers herself with her thumb while viewing photographs.
☆ She has a bad habit of scratching at herself when she's extremely upset, especially when she catches her reflection for too long. She'll get caught up in it and focus on everything "wrong" and will freak out. She has scars of scratch marks on her face from it that have stayed throughout the years. Her arms and the outside of her thighs have them as well. She also has a habit of pulling at her hair at the top of her scalp during extremely emotional moments. After these things appeared to be a pattern for her, Primo suggested she wear some type of hand coverings in a test to see what helps her. It took some adjusting, but Starlight eventually got used to wearing her gloves daily, better safe than sorry. A downside of them however is that it's a bit harder for Starlight to have a proper grip on things with her hands, though it's proven to be helpful in preventing her from grabbing her hair too much to cause harm. They prevent her from scratching, though her skin might become red with irritation at excessive rubbing of the gloves on herself in any attempts to scratch, she no longer has new self inflicted scars on herself. There's rarely ever a moment Starlight goes without her gloves on.
☆ Starlight works in the abbey’s gardens, passed down from Primo. Mountain is in charge of the greenhouse. As such, along with her earth element, Starlight spends a lot of time outside and enjoys her time in nature. She likes to go foraging when she can, as well as hosting picnics with the other ghouls.
☆ Starlight loves baking and cooking. All of her recipes are made by herself and are committed to memory after many many years of experience. She prepares coffee and tea for the ghouls every morning, as she wakes up before all of them. She remembers everyone's preferences and after so long, each ghoul has their own unofficial spot at the table. If she had enough time in the mornings, she'll even prepare breakfast. Her favorite though is to bake sweets for everyone, specifically things that involve strawberries.
☆ Starlight doesn't understand technology, doesn't know how it works. She's been around about 50 years (on the Surface at least) so she's really as lost on that front as Primo and Nihil would be. Not that she'd be able to read anything a cell phone or the internet has to offer her anyway.
☆ Starlight was summoned in the '70s, so a decent chunk of her life on the Surface was with some of that technology. Just a bit more distanced as she's rarely ever left the Ministry. As such when VHS was invented and popularized, Primo took an immediate liking to the form of holding media. As such, he and Nihil collected a lot of vhs.
☆ The new technology confused Starlight for quite some time, even now she gets a little startled by moving pictures on a screen. But VHS quickly grew on her and she spent her free time watching old movies in Primo's collection. Her favorites were that of Marilyn Monroe and as such, her internal monologue adjusted to that of a transatlantic actress accent. So when she speaks via telepathy, that's usually the kind of "voice" one would hear, alongside how she tends to speak in a formal manner.
☆ Vinyl records are another she's more used to. Being the musician he is, Primo has an abundant collection of records. In fact, at some point, he showed Starlight how to properly use one. The method of usage was much easier for her to understand, so she took quickly to learning it. However as to how there's voices coming from a big disk like thing? She's decided it'll never be something she can wrap her head around just right, settling on just accepting that it makes pretty noises and spins. She could watch a record do its thing for hours, well after it stops its music.
☆ Part of why she gravitates towards those two things, vhs and vinyl, is the lack of reading it takes to actually use them. As she can't read and the process of learning is a struggle for her, she likes the simple button symbols of "pause/play" and "it makes music when it spins with the needle carefully positioned.”
☆ As such, television screens and cell phones are a hard no for her. Aside from the now +10 buttons on a remote, half of which no one seems to actually know what they do, and the reading that cell phones require to use them properly, the immense amounts of content they hold is overwhelming for her. She doesn't understand how people can use a phone while the TV plays in front of them at the same time. It's overstimulating for her after spending most of her life actually in nature, not having her brain constantly stimulated with things that aren't neccesary to her survival and job.
☆ Her maximum screen time limit is 30 minutes a day (implemented by herself and requiring another ghoul at her side to be able to actually count the time), and she rarely uses even a minute of that. If she ever is seen looking at a television screen or cell phone, it's most likely Swiss showing her the most brainrotting form of "entertainment" he could find, just for the sake of seeing the confusion on her face (lovingly).
☆ All of this to say that it's not that there's necessarily nothing on the vast internet that doesn't amuse Star or peak her interest. It's very easy to get her intrigued by something, in fact. But she'll never, ever, go out of her way to risk getting lost in a rabbit hole of random things it has to offer just for the sake of a silly cat video or two. She'll watch what she finds interesting a little bit if someone is already doing so, but aside from that, all she has in her room is Primos vhs/record player that she brought over after he died.
☆ Cameras are also one of the things she quickly grew to love. In fact, she carries one on her person everywhere she goes. She has a photo album she holds dear to her heart. She'll take pictures of anything, from a tiny bug Primos garden, to her friends. Rarely does she allow her photo or video taken, but when she does, she tries not to look at it for her own reasons. She's had Primo write captions in the album for each and every photo. And when Primo left, she didn't have anyone to really write in it for her. She tried learning to read but its a struggle, she only can really understand short two/three letter words and numbers so it wasn't enough. Quite a few pictures have been left without captions, even after she allowed the other band ghouls to write her captions in more recent times. So much time has passed, she doesn't remember much context to some of the photos anymore.
